Final Fantasy XJust like Final Fantasy IX, Final Fantasy X had huge expectations and was definitely one of the most anticipated PlayStation 2 titles of 2001. In my opinion, Final Fantasy X is definitely one of the best Final Fantasy titles and probably my favourite of all the Final Fantasy games.

Since Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy games have outdone one another in pretty much every department – specifically graphics, Final Fantasy VII made the leap to 3D, and this was improved upon in Final Fantasy VIII, and further in FFIX. Visually, Final Fantasy X is stunning; it looks far superior to any other of the previous Final Fantasy titles, with hours upon hours of breathtaking FMV sequences.

Final Fantasy XFinal Fantasy X opens up in a huge city full of Machina called Zanarkand, on the 10th Anniversary of Jecht, Tidus’ father and legendary Blitzball star’s disappearances. Tidus, who has followed in his father’s footsteps and also become a Blitzball star for the same team, the Zanarkand Abes is about to play the match of his life when an unknown terror attacks Zanarkand, resulting in total chaos. The terror is the games antagonist, a monster known as Sin and it is at this point in the game when Sin throws Tidus and his mentor, Auron 1,000 years into the future.

After a series of events Tidus finds himself off the shore of an island called Besaid, and eventually ends up meeting, and accompanying Yuna as her guardian as she travels across Spira collecting the Aeons she needs to defeat Sin, who still terrorises Spira 1,000 years later. As the story progress’s you’re introduced to some of Final Fantasy’s finest characters, that all have their own individual back stories that are so deep and engaging that you’ll be hooked on the game until the very end.

Final Fantasy XFinal Fantasy X is also the first Final Fantasy game to introduce voice acting, rather the typical scrolling text that had become somewhat of a tradition in the previous Final Fantasy titles. This of course had some limitations, as you couldn’t name your entire party like in the previous games however this isn’t something you’ll miss due to Final Fantasy X’s vocal cast.

To give you a few departing words, Final Fantasy X is one of the best Final Fantasy games to date, and my personal favourite. With an engaging storyline, both outstanding visuals and audio, as well as the same old game play style that we’ve grown to love of the years – Final Fantasy X is definitely a game that can’t be missed!
