Final Fantasy Rebirth » Final Fantasy VIII » X-ATM092 Boss Guide
Alas, we come to the glorious spider machine known as the X-ATM092.
This thing is a royal pain, if you don't know what you're doing, and you're trying to maximize AP from him. In fact, it's a pain even if you're NOT trying to get AP; and instead, running for your life).
First off, what you have to realize about this thing, is that it CAN be defeated. However, it can only be defeated in one place, and that is the bridge that connects Dollet, with the mountains, in the city's backyard.
Now, here's the stats of this boss (all of this changes based on what level Squall is. I'm just going to estimate certain things based on roughly what level you should be when you face it):
HP: 3,000-5,500
Weakness: Thunder
Strength: Poison
Draw: Fire, Blizzard, Cure, Protect
AP: 50 (if defeated)
Now. You look at the stats, and you're going "WHAT??? 50 AP?!?!". Yes, 50AP. However, there IS a trick to this, and it's hard to pull off. You have to be able to lower it's health to "0" before it repairs itself. When you do so, it will become fully healed again, and automatically stand back up. Take it back down (just to a state where you can run away), and you will be rewarded the 50AP.
In order to do this, there must be some pre-planning. Take Selphie and Squall, and equip GF's to them with the "Mag-J" ability. Then, equip whatever magic which will raise their
Magic stat as high possible.
Now, take Ifrit and equip him on Zell. Yes, Zell. Raise Zell's
Strength stat as high as possible, and then take
Thunder, and junction it to Zell's Elemental Attack.
With all of that set in place, allow your characters to have to following roles:
Whether it's Squall or Selphie, get them to continually summon Quezacotl (which should also have the
Boost ability, and as many
SumMag+..% as you can get), and then the other character to cast "Cure" and "Protect" spells on the party when needed, either from their magic stock, or from casting it directly from the X-ATM092.
Now, attempt to put Zell in critical health (yellow numbers). When he reaches this state, continually skip his turn while holding down on the left directional button. This will ensure you don't miss his Limit Break when it comes around.
Execute his limit break. However,
DO NOT attempt to perform his final attack! Instead, repeatedly press
Circle, X, and then
Up, Down in an alternating pattern, to perform
Booya and
Heel Drop. You should be able to do anywhere from 15-35 hits. This will bring the beast down in no time.
Following this strategy, you should be able to maximize the amount of AP you receive, along with defeating the X-ATM092 on the bridge.
Also, when facing the X-ATM092 on the bridge, it may take 2-3 times of bringing the machine's health to "0" before it falls.
And finally, if you defeat it, you don't get to see the FMV with Quistis kicking some booty. Or should I say...slaughtering some with an extremely large machine gun. But that's worth 150AP..isn't it?
