It has become somewhat of a tradition for every Kingdom Hearts game to end with a secret trailer for the next Kingdom Hearts game, Kingdom Hearts had the Another Side, Another Story, Final Mix had Deep Dive and Kingdom Hearts II had an FMV sequence illustrating three armoured knights and a so called “Keyblade War”.
Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix left us with yet another trailer, this time showing us some more footage of the armoured knights, and finally some of there faces. Previous rumours had suggested that the three knights were Sora, Riku and Kairi. However this has been blown out of the window because one of the knights looks awfully similar to Roxas, and another has longish blue hair whilst the final knight has long brown hair.
It’s also been confirmed that Kingdom Hearts III won’t have a 3 in the title, so it will be Kingdom Hearts: Subtitle. This is because it is not continuing on from the current trilogy, and if you like could be making the first footsteps towards a new Kingdom Hearts series.
The new trailer from Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix shows a battle between a bald man, who many believe to be some form of Ansem and the three knights. To put it bluntly the three knights get well and truly slaughtered, one of the armoured knights (the one that looks similar to Roxas) even gets frozen!
A release date for Kingdom Hearts III you ask? Not a chance, if anything this game won’t be out until 2010 based on the fact that Tetsuya Nomura has a lot on with his current Final Fantasy Versus XIII project.
To summarise what we know so far, Kingdom Hearts III will be set in a different time and place with new main characters, however the appearance of Sora has not totally been ruled out of the equation due to the fact King Mickey has been shown in the same time zone that Kingdom Hearts III takes place in. The three armoured knights are stuck in the middle of a “Keyblade War”, this is illustrated by all the fallen Keyblades in the secret movie from Kingdom Hearts II. And that’s just about all we know for definite, don’t expect anything from Square Enix until mere moments before the release of Kingdom Hearts III!
